Kuala Lumpur, MALAYSIA — Datuk Low Beng Choo was acclaimed yesterday morning as President of Softball Asia (SA). During its 24th Congress the newly renamed Asian softball continental governing body formerly known as Softball Confederation of Asia (SCA) – changed its name to Softball Asia.
Ms Choo Low was already life president of SCA (2009 – 2014) before leaving to take the post of Secretary General of the Olympic Council of Malaysia.
Member of the WBSC Executive Board, Japanese softball legend Taeko Utsugi was unanimously elected as First Vice President.
Along with the name change the Congress also approved the establishment of new executive board position the SA Chairman. The outgoing President Pan Yi Chuan (TPE) was unanimously elected to the position.
“It is an honour to be asked to helm the SA again and unanimously supported by the affiliates,” commented Ms Choo Low.
“Softball has indeed grown in great leaps and bounds in Asia and with new branding of Softball Asia, we intend to further add a new life to the sports and move forward further.
“SA is a very active body and with softball back for the 2020 Japan Olympics after last held in 2008, we have to work harder to catch up with the rest of the world and continue to keep the sport relevant.” she added.
