歷史

Softball in a fairly new sport in Kenya. The sport is governed in the country by the Softball Federation of Kenya. The federation was registered on 31st July 1998 in Nairobi, Kenya under the leadership of Fridah Mulwale Shiroya as the first President. Locally it is affiliated to Kenya National Sports Council (KNSC) and the National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K). Internationally it is affiliated to Africa Baseball and Softball Association (ABSA) and World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

There is a men and women national team in Kenya. The National Softball Women Team has represented Kenya several times at the international arena. In 2005 the team participated in Africa Olympic qualifier in Harare, Zimbabwe. In 2016, the team visited Uganda for an international friendly match. It also took part in the women's softball world championship in Surrey, Canada. We are happy that softball is back in the Olympics and therefore we wish to prepare our national team for the qualifiers which will be held in 2018.

Locally we have a National League which currently has 8 women and 9 men teams. The league is structured in 7 series format with the top 4 teams qualifying for the national playoffs to determine the champion.

Most of the teams come from the universities, eg: Multimedia University of Kenya, Jomo Kenyatta University of Kenya, Kenyatta University, Dedan Kimathi University, Africa Nazarene University, Technical University of Mombasa, Egerton University, and two clubs namely Knights and Ryderz. We also have some junior teams in Meru, Migori and Bungoma counties.
