前紐西蘭男壘國家隊隊長Rhys Casley，這位場上、場內都優雅的選手在他十二年耀眼的生涯，參與了最高層級各項國際賽事。今年稍早在轉播席中見證了於紐西蘭舉行的 2020世界棒壘球總會U-18男壘世界盃，這位已經退休的二壘手對於這次在北帕麥斯頓 Colquhoun 公園由日本取得榮耀、緊接著排名有著澳洲與捷克的錦標賽極為讚美。
＂我想整個U-18男壘世界盃、以整套來看是很棒的。北帕麥斯頓能舉行世界盃對紐西蘭壘球是很重大的。＂他說。＂通常我們在大城市舉辦壘球賽事，像是奧克蘭，所以能將國際錦標賽從大都會區帶到各區域當中是很棒的。＂
＂北帕麥斯頓市議會能投注幾百萬元在其中真是太棒了，他們投注的基礎建設，將是會永遠留在當地很好的長遠計畫。你永遠不會知道，我們可以在未來再次舉行。＂
紐西蘭壘球名人堂成員的Casley說對於U-18男壘世界盃的競賽層次讓他印象深刻。＂日本與澳洲在整個錦標賽都很棒，我們有看到阿根廷、紐西蘭、加拿大與捷克都有一些，但是還不到穩定的程度。所以我確信這個項目要能持續進行要專注在表現的穩定性。＂
＂我想把年齡分級從U-19改到 U-18是很重大的。我們看到甚至有十四歲的選手出現在錦標賽中，你一定要對於這可能是他們第一次離開父母、第一次離開他們的國家負起責任，對教練來說要管理他們真的很難。因為他們當然是教練，但是也是精神導師跟父母親。所以我想年齡落差影響了競賽層次。＂
四十一歲的Casley最為人所記得的是2013年在奧克蘭，他做為隊長帶領紐西蘭拿下世界冠軍。他在決賽對委內瑞拉打出致勝三分全壘打，讓紐西蘭拿下第六座男壘世界冠軍，仍是紐西蘭壘球史上最讓人記憶深刻的時刻之一。
2013年這次是紐西蘭的第六座世界冠軍。＂這次賽會我有很多回憶，但是主要是錦標賽前我們的困境，還有我們得克服的逆境。我們沒有從隨後繼任的CEO得到太多協助，球隊中的傷兵、當我們進入錦標賽時的狀況真的都很艱困。所以當我回顧並且反省那次賽會，我回憶的是我們克服了那些困境。＂
紐西蘭很快的將在奧克蘭再次主辦世界棒壘球總會男壘世界盃，因為 COVID-19 疫情這已經 延後到2021年。＂我很興奮世界盃自從2013年我們高舉獎盃後，要第一次回來這。我知道來自球迷的支持回在這，當年我們感覺到了，這真的很好。某些方面能成為全國焦點十天很棒，所以從這些孩子們的角度，我真的希望他們能再次奪冠，因為這真的很令人興奮，在我們的一生中這真的是很好的時刻。＂
