Which Teams will reach Gold Medal Game in Seoul?

Seoul (Korea). The second round at the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship in Seoul, Korea will end on Friday with three games. Five teams are still in the race to reach the Gold Medal Game. Except for host Korea, which lost the evening game to Japan on Thursday. In the pole position to reach the Gold Medal Game is Canada, which ended the streak of Colombia in the morning. In the afternoon Team USA had beaten defending champion Chinese Taipei.

Seoul (Korea). The second round at the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship in Seoul, Korea will end on Friday with three games. Five teams are still in the race to reach the Gold Medal Game. Except for host Korea, which lost the evening game to Japan on Thursday. In the pole position to reach the Gold Medal Game is Canada, which ended the streak of Colombia in the morning. In the afternoon Team USA had beaten defending champion Chinese Taipei.

This leaves Canada at the top of the standings with a 3-1 record, followed by the United States, Chinese Taipei, Colombia and Japan tied with two wins and two losses apiece. Korea is out of the race with just one win in four games. The top two teams from the second round will play in the Gold Medal Game on Saturday.

The classification round for places 7th to 12th ended on Thursday. Panama ends up in 7th, Venezuela 8th, Australia 9th and Italy in 10th. Already on Wednesday the Netherlands had downed the Czech Republic to finish 11th.

Round 2:

Canada 10 – Colombia 6

After Colombia stunned three favorites in a row with Venezuela, Korea and Japan, their run at the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship was stopped by Canada on Thursday morning. The Maple Leafs nearly blew a 7-0 lead en route to a 10-6 victory at Mokdong Stadium. Canada is now 3-1 in the second round after winning three games in 24 hours. Colombia dropped to 2-2.

USA 5 – Chinese Taipei 1

Team USA defeated Chinese Taipei 5-1 on Thursday afternoon at Mokdong Stadium. Both teams are now tied in the second-round standings with 2-2 records. The United States broke a tie in the third inning and never looked back in a game with a combined 23 hits, just three walks and six runs. Stephen Gonsalves went the distance to lay the groundwork for the victory.

Korea 2 – Japan 4

The Gold Medal Game at the XXV IBAF 18U Baseball World Championship will be played without host Korea. They lost the highly anticipated duel against arch rival Japan on Thursday evening by a score of 2-4. In presence of KBO Commissioner Koo Bon-neung, who also threw out the first pitch prior to the game, a four-run sixth inning decided effectively the game. Shintaro Fujinami threw a complete game, one day after pitching five innings in a loss against Colombia.

Game for 7th place:

Panama 5 – Venezuela 4

Panama is finishing the tournament in seventh place after beating Venezuela 5-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Gueui Stadium in Seoul, Korea. A two-run triple by Anthony Diaz in the bottom of the sixth gave Panama the decisive lead to prevail in the game. Venezuela was up in front twice, but couldn’t close it out.

Game for 5th place: 

Australia 11 – Italy 2

taly stayed in competition for half of the game against Australia, then the guys from Down Under took a forceful lead and won with a score of 11-2 to end in ninth in the 18U Baseball World Championship in Seoul, Korea, leaving the Europeans the 10th position.
