Cuba literally walked away with a 6-5 win on Saturday evening after a thrilling ending against Mexico. A bases loaded walk by Luis Robert capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth, which turned a 3-5 deficit into a victory.

The host had scored twice in the top of the ninth and would have reached the Gold Medal Game with a win. Instead they fell to third place due to the tiebreaker and will face Chinese Taipei for Bronze. Cuba reached the championship game against Venezuela, improving to 5-0 in the second round of the I IBAF 15U Baseball World Championship.

It was a classic back and forth battle between the two teams with the score locked at 3-3 going into the ninth inning. Mexico struck first, taking advantage of two errors to plate runs by Luis Urias and Jose Lizarraga. But their luck left them in the bottom half of the frame. An error, this time on the Mexican side allowed Cuba to tie the game. They loaded the bases afterwards with no outs. Just when it seems that reliever Jesus Brito would escape the jam with two strikeouts, he lost the zone and walked Robert on six pitches to force in the winning run with two outs.
