Cuba playing Venezuela for Gold in Chihuahua

Chihuahua (Mexico). Cuba and Venezuela will play in the Gold Medal Game at the I IBAF 15U Baseball World Championship in Chihuahua, Mexico. Cuba remained undefeated thanks to a walk-off victory over Mexico on Saturday evening. With the victory they also knocked off the host from the championship game, as they fell into a tiebreaker with Venezuela and Chinese Taipei.

Chihuahua (Mexico). Cuba and Venezuela will play in the Gold Medal Game at the I IBAF 15U Baseball World Championship in Chihuahua, Mexico. Cuba remained undefeated thanks to a walk-off victory over Mexico on Saturday evening. With the victory they also knocked off the host from the championship game, as they fell into a tiebreaker with Venezuela and Chinese Taipei. Chinese Taipei had downed Nicaragua, while Venezuela had crushed Brazil on the last day of the group-play in the second round. The Gold Medal Game will be played at 7pm local time. At 3pm Mexico is playing Chinese Taipei for Bronze. In the morning at 10am Brazil meets with Nicaragua in the game for fifth place.

Venezuela 10 – Brazil 0

Luis Arraez pitched seven scoreless innings to lead Venezuela to a 10-0 shutout over Brazil. He struck out seven and issued just five hits and a pair of walks, as his team did their job to keep their Gold Medal dreams alive. Angel Manzanarez scored three times to help with the run support.

Chinese Taipei 13 – Nicaragua 6

Chinese Taipei scored seven runs in the second to erase a 1-6 deficit in a 13-6 win against Nicaragua on Saturday afternoon. It was the final second-round matchup for both teams at the I IBAF 15U Baseball World Championship in Chihuahua, Mexico. Afterwards they had to await their fate for Sunday’s final day of the competition.

Cuba 6 – Mexico 5

The evening game between Cuba and Mexico turned out to be fulfilling the high expectations, but the fans at Chihuahua stadium went home disappointed. Cuba defended its perfect record with a 6-5 walk-off win. In the bottom of the ninth inning they erased a 3-5 deficit with three runs, scoring the winning run on a bases-loaded walk by Luis Robert.

Group 2

In Group 2 of the second round, the final three games were played or were supposed to be played. Honduras dismantled Germany in the morning and Argentina beat Italy in a rain-shortened game. Afterwards the weather led to the cancelation of the game between Aruba and Hong Kong.
