Women’s BWC: Aussies win over Cuba

A six-run rally in the fifth inning helped Australia to a 12-4 win over Cuba in the afternoon game at the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup at Telus Field in Edmonton, Canada. The team from Down Under overcame 0-3 and 3-4 deficits to beat the Caribbean squad. Christina Kreppold (4-5, 4 RBI) led Australia on offense. Kim McMillan dominated in a four-inning relief appearance.

Women’s BWC: Canada has successful Opening in Edmonton

Host Canada had a perfect start into the V Women’s Baseball World Cup, dispatching Chinese Taipei 12-2 on Friday evening. The Maple Leafs countered an early lead of the Asians with five runs in the first two frames and put the game in the books with seven combined runs in the fourth and fifth. Meagan Cornelssen drove in three, Nicole Luchanski scored three times.

The V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup continued on Saturday morning with a 6-3 victory by Chinese Taipei over Cuba at Telus Field in Edmonton, Canada. Two runs apiece in the second, fourth and sixth lifted the Asians to their first victory in the tournament. They had lost to Canada on opening day. Cuba lost for the second time in as many days.

Women’s BWC: Japan starts with Shutout over Netherlands

After having the opening day off at the V Women’s Baseball World Cup defending champion Japan started the tournament at Telus Field in Edmonton, Canada with a 21-0 blowout over the Netherlands. Japan scored nine runs apiece in the first and the fifth to end the contest early after five frames. It was the second loss for the Dutch team in the tournament.

The American squad won in five innings, led by pitchers Kristin Caldwell and Kayla Bufardeci, who hold their counterparts to just one hit in the game.
