Women’s BWC: Venezuela 5th after Win over Chinese Taipei

Venezuela is finishing in fifth place in the final standings of the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup. The defeated Chinese Taipei 6-1 at John Fry Park on Sunday afternoon to claim the top spot in the consolation round. Three runs in the third and three in the seventh sealed their victory.

Venezuela is finishing in fifth place in the final standings of the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup. The defeated Chinese Taipei 6-1 at John Fry Park on Sunday afternoon to claim the top spot in the consolation round. Three runs in the third and three in the seventh sealed their victory.

Chinese Taipei had the better start, getting up in front with a sac fly by Shih Yun Lee in the second. They wouldn’t score again though and Venezuela came back. Ingrid Escobar got them the lead with two-out bases clearing double. Kelyn Mendoza and Escobar drove in three more runs in the seventh to provide some insurance.

On the mound Loudelis Moreno went the distance for Venezuela, allowing just one run on six hits and a walk, striking out one for the win. Tzu Hui Pan issued five hits, three runs and a base on balls in 4 1/3 innings, to take the loss.
