2000 U-18 Baseball World Cup MVP named a Goodwill Ambassador for 2014 Asian Games

The 2000 U-18 Baseball World Cup ‘Most Valuable Player’ (MVP), South Korean baseball star Choo Shin-soo, was named the newest goodwill ambassador for the upcoming 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

Choo’s MVP performance in the 2000 IBAF U-18 world championship helped South Korea earn the gold medal.

Choo also served on South Korea’s gold medal winning team at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.

“The Korean national baseball team won the gold medal in the 2010 Guangzhou Asian Games, I hope to see the team repeat as the champions,” Choo stated in a news release from the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

Organisers of the 2014 Incheon Asian Games consider baseball’s Choo to be the ideal athlete “to promote the Asian Games to the 4.5 billion people in Asia”.

In January, Choo was named one of the goodwill ambassadors for the 2018 Olympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.

Commenting then on PyeongChang 2018’s announcement, WBSC co-President Riccardo Fraccari stated: “As a former gold medallist in the IBAF U-18 Baseball World Cup in 2000, we are very proud to see Choo’s path to excellence continuing and being used to promote such worthy causes.”

The 31-year-old Choo recently signed a $130 million (USD) contract with the Texas Rangers club in USA’s Major League Baseball.
