IWAKI, Japan – The U.S. National Team defeated fellow Americas representative Panama, 8-3, Sunday in the bronze medal final of the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2016.

IWAKI, Japan – The U.S. National Team defeated fellow Americas representative Panama, 8-3, Sunday in the bronze medal final of the WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup 2016.

With the game tied 1-1 after several defensive highlights, the U.S.’s offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Pitcher Jared Jones, who was put on the mound in the fifth inning to relieve starter Zach Martinez, was credited with the win, while shortstop Anthony Volpe (2-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 R) charged the U.S. attack.

With the success of Panama’s National Team on the world stage in Iwaki, the bronze medal game was aired live in Panama on the nation’s free-to-air public broadcast network, SerTV.

At the U-15 Baseball World Cup 2014, the U.S. took the silver medal, while Panama placed sixth.

The U.S. and Panama entered Iwaki as the world’s No. 2 and No. 17 ranked nations.
