Japan defeats Canada in final of Women’s Baseball World Cup

The Women’s National Baseball Team of Japan defended Canada 10-0 in the world championship finale of the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Sunday night at Hyundai-Gijang Dream Ballpark.

GIJANG, Korea — The Women’s National Baseball Team of Japan defeated Canada 10-0 in the world championship finale of the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup Sunday night at Hyundai-Gijang Dream Ballpark.

World Cup 2016 MVP Ayami Sato pitched a two-hit complete-game shutout to extend Japan’s win streak to 21 games and five straight world titles.

Following a scoreless first inning, Japan built a comfortable 6-0 lead in the third inning.

“They’refive-time world champions for a reason and are a really tough team to play against,” said Canada’s National Team Manager André Lachance.

Of the eight games played in Gijang, Japan won six of them by shutout.

Canada’s 2nd Place finish matches the nation’s highest ever result for the Women’s National Team in international competition.
