GIJANG, Korea — The National Teams of Canada, Chinese Taipei and Japan opened the Super Round of the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup with wins on Wednesday at Hyundai-Gijang Dream Ballpark.

Day 4- Super Round Results

The three nations used dominant pitching performances to silence their opponents.  Canada’s Autumn Mills held Australia hitless through 5 1/3 innings, while Japan ace pitcher Ayami Sato struck out five over 5 2/3 innings to earn the win against Venezuela. Chinese Taipei ace Chen Yu Hsu only surrendered two hits to Korea en route to earning the win for her nation. The wins for Hsu and Sato are their second of the world championship tournament — Sato also leads the World Cup with 16 strikeouts.  The latest win for Japan extended the top-ranked nation’s win-streak to 16 World Cup games.

On Thursday, Chinese Taipei will try to end Japan’s streak, while Korea and Australia will battle for their first Super Round win.  Canada and Venezuela – both 1-1 — will meet in a highly pivotal game. Canada won their last encounter, which was at the 2015 Pan-Am Games, 9-3.
