Pakistan National Women’s Baseball Champions crowned

LAHORE, Pakistan — The Pakistan Army women’s baseball team captured the nation’s crown. The Pakistan Baseball Federation staged the nation’s pinnacle women’s baseball competition from 1-5 June in Lahore.

Pakistan Olympic Association President Syed Arif Hassan threw out the ceremonial first pitch to launch the 13th edition of the event, which featured seven teams.

The Pakistan National Women’s Baseball Team will make their world championship debut at the LG Presents WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2016 in Gijang, South Korea, this September. Pakistan will begin the hunt for the world title out of Group A, along with hosts Korea, world No. 5 Venezuela and world No. 8 Cuba. The top two nations from each group will advance to the Super Round.

On the men’s side, the world No. 23 Pakistan National Team will compete for a spot in the 2017 World Baseball Classic. The qualifier will take place in Brooklyn, USA, from 22–25 September. World No. 14 Brazil, No. 33 Great Britain and No. 43 Israel will also in Brooklyn to contend for the last available entry into the 2017 flagship tournament.
