DAVID/CHITRÉ, Panama – Worlds No. 1 USA and No. 2 Japan both moved to 2-0 with convincing wins Saturday morning to open Day 2 of the IV WBSC U-15 Baseball World Cup in Panama.

With four games still to be played on Day 2, USA and Japan sit atop Groups A and B, respectively.

Japan 11, Netherlands 1

No. 2 Japan dashed any hopes of an upset scoring 11 unanswered runs to move to 2-0 with an 11-1 defeat over No. 9 Netherlands.

Trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning, Japan took advantage of two errors and used two hits to score three runs and take a lead that they would not relinquish adding eight runs between the sixth and seventh innings.

Isshin Obata recorded three of Japan’s ten hits including a double and scored three runs while Reiya Saka had three RBI.

Japan starting pitcher Sota Hinoue fanned seven batters over 4.2 innings of work to record the win while Netherlands starter Rick Rizvić went down as the losing pitcher.

USA 10, Germany 0 (5 innings)

Thomas Dilandri hit two doubles and scored two runs while three pitchers combined to limit No. 21 Germany to just two hits as No. 1 USA improved to 2-0 with a 10-0 win.

USA starter Christian Little went three innings on the mound and allowed just two hits and walk while striking out three. Timothy Williams Jr. came on in relief in the fourth and tossed a perfect inning with one strikeout to earn the win while Germany starter Lou Helmig took the loss.

Ryan Clifford contributed a 2-for-3 game at the plate for USA with a double and one RBI.
