Japan uses the home run against South Africa to earn first win in U-23 Baseball World Cup

The defending U-23 World Champions needed only seven innings to beat South Africa. Samurai connected for three home runs: by Kishisato, Shuto and Uchida. Yamazaki allowed only two hits and two walks in six innings

The defending U-23 World Champion Japan got started with a slugging 13-0 victory in seven innings against South Africa. Left fielder Kishisato hit the first home run of the tournament.

Samurai outhit, 10-2, South Africa and connected for a total three home runs: Ryosuke Kishisato capped a five-run third inning rally with a two-run home run and right fielder Ukyo Shuto followed with another two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth. Team captain and clean up hitter Yasuhito Uchida hit a solo homer in the bottom of the sixth.

Ryosuke Kishisato got the first home run of the U-23 World Cup

Soichiro Yamasaki picked the win, pitching six innings and allowing only two hits and two walks. Shuto Sakurai took care of the last three outs.
