Japan win undefeated first Women’s Baseball Asian Cup, 4 qualify for WBSC World Cup 2018

HONG KONG-Japan went undefeated and scored the opponents 53-1 in 5 games to win the first Women’s Baseball Asian Cup. Chinese Taipei, Korea and Hong Kong also qualify for WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2018

Japan dominated the first Women’s Baseball Asian Cup, played in Hong Kong from 2 through 7 September. Samurai (5-0) outscored the opponents 53-1, allowing the lonely run in a 6-1 win against Chinese Taipei.

The only game that ended on a close score was the 2-0 win against the hosts Hong Kong. Hong Kong starter Au Ho Ying went the distance and allowed only 1 earned run on 6 hits and a walk. Japan scored in the first without getting a hit on a sacrifice fly by rightfielder Watanabe and in the third on a couple of bunts by center fielder Adachi and shortstop Yoshii (RBI).
Hong Kong matched the number of hits against 3 japanese pitchers: Ayumi Ono, Runa Matsushima (she went 2 innings for the win) and Mayu Himeno (she pitched 3 innings and earned the save, allowing 4 hits but striking out 4) but couldn’t score. Hong Kong showed some abilty in executing bunts to take runners in scoring position, but could not produce runs. In the sixth they blow the greatest opportunity, as they couldn’t score with runners at second and third.
