US National Team greats to promote Women’s Baseball in Florida

SARASOTA, Florida (USA)- The New England Women’s Red Sox and the East Coast Yankees are promoting Women’s Baseball through a clinic and an exhibition game

A clinic on Friday 23 June in Sarasota, then an exhibition game on Saturday 24 June in Tampa. The New England Women’s Red Sox and the East Coast Yankees are promoting Women’s Baseball.

Sue Zipay (born Parsons) played for the Rockford Peaches, the All American Girls Professionall Baseball League (1943-1954) fictionalized in the movie A League of their Own, as a 19 year old in 1953. She orchestrated the events as a fundraiser for the Women’s Sports Museum planned for Sarasota and told the Herald Tribune: “It is really exciting for the original All American Girls Professional Baseball League players to see another group of pioneers who will display their exceptional baseball talent”.

Malaika Underwood (cover picture) is the captain for the New England Women’s Red Sox. The San Diego native, aged 36, has played in 6 Women’s Baseball World Cups and was named USA Baseball’s 2015 Sportswoman of the Year.
Adriane Adler, the manager of the East Coast Yankees, played professional women’s baseball. Her team features Megan Baltzell, who hit a home run in the 2016 World Cup, played in South Korea. Team USA entered the tournament as the defending champion of the Pan Am Games but failed to make the Super Round.

The events in Florida are included in the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the movie A League of their Own.The cast reunited during an event in May.
