Venezuela earned an important win as they defeated Korea thanks to a couple of big innings. USA needed again just one at bat to make things clear. Puerto Rico came from behind to beat Chinese Taipei and creat a four-team tie

The USA seem out of reach for any other National Team in group B of the Women’s Baseball World Cup.  Behind the hosts, the first wins by Venezuela and Puerto Rico created a four team tie.

For the second straight night USA needed only one at bat to secure the win. After scoring seven in the first, the hosts cruised to a 18-0 five inning win against The Netherlands.

Dutch starter Lisa Bergwerff got into trouble after recording the first out. She walked Jade Gortarez, allowed a single to Malaika Underwood and gave up the first run hitting Allison Hamilton and Kelsie Whitmore in a row. Megan Baltzell grounded to second, but The Netherlands failed to complete the inning ending double play and Underwood scored. Bergwerff loaded the bases again with a walk to Michelle Cobb. After an eight pitch at bat, also Anna Kimbrell drew a walk to make it 3-0. Amanda Gianelloni cleared the bases with a bullet in the gap to left center and extended USA lead to 6-0. Gianelloni scored on a towering pop fly that Dutch infielders couldn’t turn into the third out. It was it for Bergwerff and the Netherlands gave the call to Berber Jansen. The newcomer loaded the bases again, then managed to get the third out on a grounder by Hamilton, the thirteenth hitter of the at bat.
The USA went on to score 11 more runs and the game was over in 5 innings.

Brittany Schutte pitched three innings of no hit ball for USA. Laura Collins and Megan Meidlinger worked one inning each.

Venezuela beat Korea, 10-4, to earn the first win in the tournament.

Venezuela wasted no time in getting to Korea starter Jung Hyemin. Sor Brito doubled and Ingrid Escobar singled to make it 2-0 and the third run scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Yusneiby Acacio.

Venezuela broke the score open in the top of the fourth against reliever Kim Hyeli. Maigleth Ontiveros, Astrid Rodriguez and Ingrid Escobar all reached on base hits. Migreily ANgulo doubled and a defensive error made the rest. The six-run rally extended Venezuela’s lead to 10-2.

Starter Esquia Rengel pitched 3.1 innings for Venezuela. Reliever Milanyela Urquiola went 3.2 and allowed two more runs. Korea loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but the game ended as Nuri Shin grounded into a double play.

Puerto Rico came from behind to beat, 9-6, Chinese Taipei and earn the first win in the tournament.

In the bottom of the first Chinese Taipei took the lead. Chen Yu Hsuan led off with a single. With one out, also Chen Hsiao Mei singled. Shen Chia Wen followed with an RBI single. Chinese Taipei scored two more on a couple of double steals and added a fourth run on an RBI single by Tu Yu Chuan.

Trailing 5-0, Puerto Rico came back into the game in the top of the third. Chinese Taipei starter Hu Ching Wen didn’t get much help from her defense and Puerto Rico took full advantage of it putting in place a four-run rally capped by a 2 RBIs double by Eva Torres.

Puerto Rico loaded the bases without getting a hit in the top of the fourth and Chinese Taipei called Lai Chiao Chi from the bullpen. The newcomer walked Janiliz Rivera to tie the game and then was replaced by Yi Hsuan Chou. Things did not improve: the reliever hit Diamilette Quiles, walked Yairka Moran and gave up two more runs. Yu Ying Hsieh became then the fourth pitcher for Chinese Taipei.

Hsieh not only closed the frame, but went on to work four innings, allowing only one more run on four hits.
Also Puerto Rico starter Noelia De Jesus allowed one more run. She left with two outs in the fifth. Nylah Ramirez took over, retired seven in a row, including five on strikes, and sealed the win.
