Women’s Baseball World Cup: USA seem unstoppable, afternoon games postponed in group A
The USA beat Korea and keep cruising at the top of group A in the Women’s Baseball World Cup. The other two games were scheduled in the afternoon, but never started due to a weather alert
The USA keep cruising at the top of group A of the Women’s Baseball World Cup. They earned their third win in the tournament defeating, 11-1, Korea in five innings.
Once again the USA broke the score open in the first at bat. Heavy rain delayed the game with one out in the bottom of the first. Play resumed with back to back doubles by Jade Gortarez and Malaika Underwood. Trailing 1-0, Korea starter Cho Myunghee hit Allison Hamilton and walked Megan Baltzell. The USA scored again on a wild pitch and Anna Kimbrel added more with a single.
The USA added three to the 5-0 lead in the bottom of the second against reliever Kim Bo Mi thanks to four hits, including a double by Megan Baltzell.
Korea was forced to go again to the bull pen and gave the call to Won Hyeryeon.
Back to back doubles by Michelle Cobb and Anna Kimbrell, who got four RBIs in the game, added three runs in the bottom of the fourth and forced Korea to call Lee Jihye, the fourth pitcher of the night, from the bullpen.
Kelsie Whitmore earned the win going four innings and allowing one run on three hits. Emily Tsujikawa took care of the fifth.
The afternoon games of Day 3 were postponed because of a weather alert
The afternoon games of Day 3 of Women’s Baseball World Cup, Netherlands–Chinese Taipei and Venezuela–Puerto Rico, could not start due to a weather alert. After a wait that went beyond two hours, the games were suspended and will be played at 9 am on Monday 27 August.
