Australia improved to 4-1 with an easy win, 14-0, against Botswana in 4 innings. Canada shares the same record (but lost against the aussie) after an impressive 7-0 win against China

Canada and Australia both improved to a 4-1 record. Canada shut out China, 7-0, in 6 innings, while Australia only needed 4 to beat Botswana 14-0. 

Canada wasted no time to get on the scoreboard. Victoria Hayward led off against Zhao Xinxing with a double to right and advanced to third on a bunt by Erika Polidori. Jennifer Salling put the ball in play and scored her from third.

Canada extended the lead in the top of the third. Kaleigh Rafter led off with a single. Pinch runner Joanne Lye took over and stole second. A single by Victoria Hayward scored her from second. Hayward advanced to third as Polidori put the ball in play and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jennifer Salling. Back to back singles by Holly Speers and Kelsey Jenkens produced another run.

With 2 more runs on 2 base hits (Franklin and Polidori) and a sacrifice fly (Salling) in the fourth, Canada sends Zhao to the showers.
In the sixth Canada adds a run on reliever Chai Yinan. Victoria Hayward triples and scores on a base hit by Erika Polidori.

Danielle Lawrie gave no chance to China. She picked up the win going the distance and allowing only 2 hits and 2 walks.

Canada celebrates a key win against China

Australia needed only 3 at bats to score enough runs to end the game with Botswana in 4 innings. The aussie outscored, 14-0, and outhit, 12-1, a side that also committed 4 defensive errors. Australia improved to a 4-1 record in group B.
Samantha Poole starred for Australia, going 3 for 3, with a double and 4 RBIs.
Tarni Stepto picked up the win, going 3 innings and striking out 5. Onalenna Ntibi got Botswana’s only hit.
