The WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship Group B opened today at Svoboda Park in Prague. Venezuela defeated South Africa, 1-0, in a pitching duel during the first game of the day. Herwin Querales scored the only run of the game, while Erik Urbaneja pitched a complete game shutout.

South African pitcher Tidima Kekana pitched a really good game, but didn’t receive support from his offensive and was charged with the loss. He fanned 10 Venezuelan hitters and allowed only 4 hits.

However, in the bottom of the third, Querales crossed the plate with the only run of the contest. The Venezuelan left fielder singled with one out and advanced to third on an assistance error by left. Finally, he scored on a wild pitch.

Urbaneja claimed his first win of the tournament with a masterpiece. The Venezuelan left-hander threw a 3-hitter, 8 strikeouts game to blank the African team.
