The WBSC
Premier12 Super Round will begin with a match-up between no. 6 ranked Mexico
(1-0) and no. 4 ranked Chinese Taipei (0-1) from ZOZO Marine Stadium in Chiba
City, Japan.
Mexico
enter the Super Round as the winner of Group A, after victories against the
Netherlands, USA and the Dominican Republic. In front of their home fans in
Guadalajara, Mexico outscored their three opening round opponents 24-5 in three
games.
Chinese Taipei
picked up wins against Puerto Rico and Venezuela in Taichung, but were beaten
8-1 by Japan in their Opening Round finale to finish second in Group B. Chinese
Taipei have never lost consecutive WBSC Premier12 games.
Chinese Taipei and Mexico last met at senior level international competition at the 2009 World Cup, matching up twice. Mexico claimed an 8-0 win in the opening round, but Chinese Taipei emerged victorious in the second round (1-0).
Efren
Navarro was one of Mexico’s hottest hitters in the opening round, leading his
team in total bases (8) and RBI (5).
After making his NPB debut in 2019 with the Orix Buffaloes, Chang Yi was outstanding for Chinese Taipei in the Opening Round, striking out six in seven scoreless innings to lead hist team to a win over Venezuela.
First pitch from ZOZO Marine Stadium is scheduled for 12:00 JST on Monday 11 November, with starting pitchers set to be named at the Super Round press conference on Sunday 10 November.
