Group B features at least five teams that aim to a spot in the super round. Korea showed they will definitely compete with an impressive shut out win over Mexico: premium pitchers and talented defense protected an early lead

Korea made a stand as one of the powers in group B with an impressive, 7-0, win against Mexico in the debut game.

Korea didn’t waste time to get on the scoreboard against Mexico’s starter Edwin Mayoral. Right fielder Doo Dong Hyeon got a leadoff single and scored on a double by center fielder Lee Tae Oh. A sacrifice fly by third baseman Lee Jae Jun and a defensive error extended the gap to 3-0.

Mexico gave the call to the bullpen in the second, when Marlon Hoyos relieved Mayoral. With two runners on, a blooper by Lee Tae Oh surprised left fielder Cortina and both runs scored. A base hit by Lee Jae Jun made it 6-0.

Korea’s starter Na Hyun Seo gave up the first hit on a lead off double by opposing pitcher Mayoral in the second. He left after striking out five in three impressive innings.

Mexico loaded the bases in the sixth against reliever Lee Jae Jun. Lim Hogil came from the bullpen to preserve the shoutout.

Despite committing two errors each, both Mexico and Korea entertained fans with spectacular defensive plays.
