This is a full report on the games played in placement round Day 2 of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

The Netherlands beat Spain, 3-1, and secured first place in the placement round, seventh place overall in the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup.

Luuk Ter Beek pitched a gem, going seven innings and allowing only two hits, all of them singles.
Reliever Jiorgeny Casimiri allowed the only extra-base hit, a double by Daniel Perez in the bottom of the eighth, and the only run to Spain.

When Spain got on the scoreboard, the Dutch were leading 2-0. The Netherlands scored in the top of the third against starter Livan Delgado when Ruendrick Piternella grounded into a force out with runners at the corner, and in the top of the eighth, thanks to a pair of singles by Shane Quant and Leandro Anasagasti off reliever Francisco Sanchez.

Luuk Ter Beek pitched seven scoreless innings for The Netherlands

China won the second game of its placement round. Yi Jian, Zhou Jie and Zhang Yifei allowed only two runs and no walks and the offence scored all the runs in the first two at-bats as China defeated South Africa, 8-0.

Third baseman Kou Yongkang and designated hitter Lu Binbin both hit a double and enjoyed multi-hit games.

China improved the placement round record to 2-2.

Panama defeated Nicaragua, 2-1, at the end of a pitching duel. Noel Suarez went 8.1 innings to earn the win. He allowed one run on six hits. Julio Gonzalez got the last two outs to earn the save.

Three of the hits allowed by Suarez came in the first. Shortstop Christian Moreno tripled and then scored on a single by first baseman Enmanuel Aburto. Nicaragua added a single by catcher Jorge Lopez, but wouldn’t get another scoring opportunity.

Panama tied it in the top of the second, making the most of a defensive error. They then scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth. Designated hitter Luis Tello reached second on a ground-rule double. Catcher Danilo Abrego batted in the winning run with a two-out single off Axel Zapata, who suffered the loss despite allowing only four hits.
