Eight National Teams advance in U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup, WBSC announces Super Round schedule

The WBSC today announced the Super Round schedule for the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup in Irvine, USA. The field is now down to eight nations, the top two teams in the Super Round will play the World Championship Game, while third an fourth in the standings will compete in the Bronze Medal Game.

IRVINE, California, USA — 12 August 2019 — The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) today announced the Super Round schedule for the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup in Irvine, California, USA. The field is now down to eight nations, the top two teams in the Super Round will battle For the Title of World Champion in the final game on Saturday 17 August, at 2 p.m., while third and fourth in the standings will compete in the Bronze Medal Game.

World No. 1 USA and No. 5 Mexico claimed Group A’s two available places in the Super Round. USA went undefeated (3-0) to win the group, while Mexico (2-1) finished in second place.

In Group B No. 2 Japan and No. 7 Australia have advanced to the Super Round. Japan won the group with perfect record (3-0) while Australia (2-1) placed second.

No. 4 Puerto Rico went undefeated to win Group C and advanced to the next stage of the event alongside No. 8 China (2-1).

Finally, No. 3 Canada and No. 6 Chinese Taipei claimed Group D’s spots in the Super Round, as first and second place respectively.

The Super Round of the U-19 Women’s Softball World Cup will begin tomorrow (Tuesday, 13 August). The top four ranked nations in the world (USA, Japan, Canada and Puerto Rico) advanced with positive record to the Super Round (1-0); while Mexico, Chinese Taipei, Australia and China will start the second round with 0-1 record. Only results between the ‘Super’ nations (including matches in the Opening Round) count towards the final Super Round standing.

No. 9 Italy, No. 11 New Zealand, No. 14 Brazil and No. 15 Czech Republic ended third place in their respective groups and will play for the 9-12 positions. No. 10 Netherlands, No. 22 Ireland, No. 28 South Africa and No. 43 Botswana ended last place in their Opening Round pools, and now will battle for 13th place.
