Faraimo, USA leave Canada no chance

The two-time defending World Champions USA are displaying their proverbial strength. They have yet to allow a hit and have outscored any team they have faced, including Canada in day 1 of the super round

The USA didn’t fail to impress once again. Behind a once again unhittable Megan Faraimo, the defending World Champions outscored Canada, 12-0 in four innings.

Canada didn’t help starting pitcher Alexis Lucyshyn. With one out in the top of the first, Canada’s infield failed to control a pop by third baseman Charla Echols and centre fielder Jayda Coleman immediately made them pay with an RBI single.

Designated player Bailey Dowling led off the top of the second with a single up the middle, advanced on an error and reached on an illegal pitch. With two outs, right fielder Jadelyn Allchin Curran homered on a bullet over the right field fence to make it 3-0.

There was no game after that. Echols, shortstop Jasmine Freed and Coleman reached on three consecutive singles and extended the lead to 5-0. Reliever Katie Korstrom headed to the circle in the top of the third, but it wasn’t enough to stop the bleeding.

Megan Faraimo put on another personal show. She struck out the first four batters she faced before retiring first baseman Hayley Alford on a pop to third base. She struck out the next four batters, raising her total to 20 over 7 innings pitched.
