New Zealand 13-4 Denmark: Wildbore homer and three runs takes hosts to victory

The Junior Black Sox advance with a 4:1 win:loss Opening Round record, which translates into 1:1 for the Super Round (includes games played against other Super Round teams).

A home run in the first innings and two more runs in the third from Harrison Wildbore, took New Zealand to it's fourth win of the Opening Round by beating Denmark 13-4 on Tuesday in Palmerston North.First baseman Dallas Clifton batted in 3 RBIs on top of scoring twice himself.

The win confirmed New Zealand in second spot of Group B behind unbeaten Japan will a 4:1 win:loss record in the Opening Round. They now advance to the Super Round with a 1:1 record as games played against other Super Round teams are only considered.

Pitcher Hunter Simpson struck out 7 in five innings (4 H, 4 R) and earned his first win of the tournament, while Nicholai Andersen pitched four innings for Denmark (7 H, 12 R, 9 SO) and was charged with the loss.

Both teams made an excellent start to the game after trading 2-run homers - Wildbore for New Zealand and Nicholai Andersen for Denmark - to end the first innings tied 2-2.

It was the third innings when New Zealand made their run, scoring 9 on the back of numerous defensive errors.

Denmark added one in the bottom of the third with a run scored by Magnus Kirstein, his third of the tournament. But New Zealand kept scoring in the fourth and fifth, on a fielding error and an RBI single by Jacob Davidson respectively. Andersen singled in for the last run of the game for Denmark.
