The former minor league catcher will work with a staff that has MLB playing or coaching experience.

The Colombian Baseball Federation (FCB, Federación Colombiana de Béisbol) has named Jair Fernández as the new manager of the national team that will compete in the WBSC Baseball Americas Qualifier, from 31 May to 5 June, where one team will earn a ticket to the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.

Fernández is a 34-year old former minor league catcher who is currently working as a coach in the Los Angeles Dodgers organization.

The coaching staff is also made of professionals with big league experience. It includes bench coach Jhonatan Solano (a former MLB catcher with the Washington Nationals), pitching coach Teofilo Gutierrez (Milwaukee Brewers), hitting coach Jorge Cortez (Arizona Diamondbacks), bullpen coach Jaime del Valler (Arizona Diamondbacks), third base coach José Mosquera (Pittsburgh Pirates) and first base coach Ronald Ramirez de la Rosa (Arizona Diamondbacks).

FCB also announced that the national team roster will be filled out after the federation confirms player availability.

Colombia is the current No. 14 in the WBSC Baseball World Rankings. The nation will compete in Group B of the qualifier, against No. 8 Cuba, No. 9 Venezuela, and No. 13 Canada.
