Dominican Republic topped Korea in the bronze medal game to became the seventh nation/territory to win a medal in baseball at the Olympic Games, after Cuba, Japan, United States, Korea, Australia and Chinese Taipei.

The Tokyo 2020 finals are scheduled for Saturday, 7 August at 12 and 19 local time at Yokohama Stadium.

"I'm sorry we didn't win and didn't give us another chance to face Japan," said Korea's manager Kyung-moon Kim. "Think about the fact these guys will be competing for gold on Saturday. It doesn't get any better than that," commented US manager Mike Scioscia.

A five-run sixth inning lifted No. 4 USA to a semifinal win against No. 3 Korea, 7-2, to advance to the Tokyo 2020 Gold Medal Game against Japan. The 2008 champions Korea will play in the Bronze Medal Game against Dominican Republic.

The KOR-USA winner will face Japan in the gold medal game, while the loser will play the Dominican Republic for bronze.

In the eighth, Tetsuto Yamada drove in three tie-breaking runs for Japan, after striking out with the bases loaded in the sixth. Triston Casas hit his third home run in as many games to push US into the semifinals.

Yamada supplied some late-game heroics to break a Japan-Korea 2-2 tie in the 8th inning.

Triston Casas and Tyler Austin delivered a pair of home runs and plated all thee runs. The US will meet the loser of the Korea-Japan game in the second semifinal. Dominican Republic will play for bronze.

The winner of Korea-Japan will advance to the gold medal game. The loser will face the winner of Dominican Republic-USA in the second semifinal.
