WBSC names MVP and Tokyo 2020 All-Olympic Baseball Team

Japan's Yamada was voted the Tokyo 2020 MVP. USA's Nick Allen earned best defensive player honours. United States, Japan, Dominican Republic, Korea and Israel represented on the All-Olympic Team.

The WBSC and Tokyo 2020 announced the Tokyo 2020 All-Olympic Baseball Team and individual awards.

Samurai Japan's Tetsuto Yamada was voted the tournament most valuable player (MVP). He started five games for Japan, four as the designated hitter one at second base. He went 7-for-20 with a home run and seven runs batted in (RBIs). He had four assists and didn't commit errors in his only defensive appearance.

Nick Allen (United States) earned the best defensive player honours. Allen didn't commit an error and made sparkling plays.

Japan's Yoshinobu Yamamoto was voted the best right-handed pitcher. He started two games, going a total of 11.1 innings, and had a 1.59 earned run average (ERA).

The best left-handed pitcher is Anthony Gose of the US. The reliever appeared in four games for a total of 5.1 innings pitched and didn't allow a run. His fastball topped at 98 miles (158 kilometres) per hour.

Takuya Kai (Japan) is the All-Olympic catcher. He appeared in four games and went 5-for-10, .500 batting average. He didn't commit an error.

Triston Casas of the US was voted the best first baseman. He had five hits over 19 at-bats, a .263 batting average. Three of those were home runs. He also drove in a team-high eight runs (RBIs). He committed a defensive error in 34 play opportunities.

Eddie Alvarez (also the US) is the All-Olympic second baseman. He went 5-for-20, .250 average, and committed an error.

Erick Mejia (Dominican Republic) is the choice at third base. He went 5-for-15, .333 average, and didn't commit an error.

After starring at the WBSC Premier12 2019, Hayato Sakamoto (Japan) was voted the best shortstop of the Olympics. He went 7-for-18, .389, and didn't commit an error.

Two of the All-Olympic outfielders represented Korea.
Hyun-soo Kim (left) went 10-for-26, .385 average, with two home runs and six RBIs. Hay-min Park (center) went 8-for-20, .400 average, with four RBIs. Neither committed an error.

The All-Olympic right fielder is Mitch Glasser (Israel). He went 7-for-17, .412 average, with four RBIs. He didn't commit an error.

Tyler Austin (USA) was voted the top designated hitter. He went 9-for-21, .429 average, with two home runs and seven RBIs.
