Beomseok Kim records 4 RBI, Korea top Brazil 11-2 at U-18 Baseball World Cup

Five-time champions Korea set the tone of the game in the first inning with a four-run rally, including an RBI double by Beomseok Kim

Beomseok Kim hit a two-run single in the first inning and homered in the sixth to lead an 11-hit Korean offence in an 11-1 win over Brazil at Ed Smith Stadium, on day three of the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup. 

Korea set the tone of the game in the first inning with a four-run rally, including an RBI double by Beomseok Kim, the first two of his four RBI in the game. Korea, No. 3 in the WBSC Basebal World Rankings, scored in the third and fifth, with RBI doubles by Daeseon Jeong and Taewan Park. While Beomseok Kim capped a three-run sixth with a towering home run to left field.

Brazil’s Paulo Noris put his team on the board in the bottom half of the first with a single, but then the South American lineup was silenced until the seventh, when they scored on a defensive error.

Korean leadoff hitter Minsuk Kim had a perfect day at the plate with a 3-for-3 afternoon, scoring two times.

Seohyeon Kim was the winner of the game in 2.2 relief innings, while Paulo Barbosa was charged with the loss.

With the win, Korea evens their record 1-1 and will play South Africa on Monday. It’s Brazil’s first loss of the tournament, after winning the first two games of the World Cup. The world No. 25 Brazilians will meet the Netherlands in their next match.
