World No. 13 Panama clinched their first win at the WBSC U-18 Baseball World Cup with a walk off 10-0 win over Italy, ranked 17th in the world, in five innings. Roger Lasso hit a double and a triple in two at bats, with two RBI and two runs scored to lead Panama’s 12-hit offensive effort.

After a scoreless first inning, Panama rallied for five runs in the second, including RBI-doubles by Luis Escudero and Alexander Chavez, and a run-scoring single by Eric Guevara, and took control of the game.

With the game 9-0 in the fifth, Joaquin Gamba hit a one-out triple to left field, and then scored on a single by pinch hitter Yeremy Lezcano to finish the game.

The winning pitcher was Luis Aguilar after four innings of work, striking out four while allowing only one hit. Italy’s Riccardo Nepoti was charged with the loss.

After losing to Japan 5-4 on Sunday, Panama, who have two make-up games scheduled on Wednesday, even their record at 1-1, while Italy suffered their fourth loss of the event. On Tuesday, Panama will face Mexico and Italy take on Australia.
