Alissa Humphrey tosses four-inning perfect game to guide USA on Opening Day win

Humphrey retired the 12 batters she faced, while striking out seven.

World No. 2 USA, the top ranked team in the tournament, topped today Czech Republic, 10-0, on the first day of the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup at Villa Maria del Triunfo sports complex in Lima, Peru. Right-handed pitcher Alissa Humphrey tossed a four-inning perfect game to guide USA to their first victory of the tournament.

Humphrey was untouchable in today’s four-inning contest. The James Madison University sophomore used 47 pitches to retire all 12 batters she faced. She struck out seven Czech hitters.

Offensively, shortstop Kinsey Fidler connected for a two-run home run in the second inning, the highlight of a seven-hit, 10-run collective effort. Olivia Johnson, Maci Bergeron and Megan Grant also collected two RBI each.

For the Czech Republic, the loss was charged to Klara Pospěchová, who was responsible for six runs on five hits.
