Colombia unveils U-18 women’s softball preliminary roster, staff for WBSC World Cup

The National Federation also announced the U-23 men’s softball preliminary roster, aiming to qualify for the inaugural World Cup next year.

The Colombian Softball Federation (Federación Colombiana de Softbol) unveiled the South American’s country's preliminary national team roster for the 2021 WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup, to be staged in Lima, Peru, from 27 March to 4 April. A total of 24 players were included on the list and will participate in a training camp from 27 November to 5 December in Medellín.

David Sanchez Ortiz will be the head coach of the Colombian U-18 Women’s National Softball Team, as the squad received a wild card entry to participate in the WBSC World Cup. He will be joined by assistants Carlos Vega, Karina Narvaez, Jamir Iriarte, Janey Peñata and Guillermo Bonfante.

Colombia, ranked No. 48 in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Ranking, finished in 6th place as host of the Pan American Championship 2019, a qualifier for the WBSC Softball World Cup.

U-23 Men’s National Softball Team

The Colombian Federation also unveiled the U-23 Men’s National Softball Team preliminary roster. The group will conduct a training camp from 27 November to 5 December in Cartagena de Indias. The list includes 19 of the nation's top players.

Colombia’s goal is to qualify for the inaugural WBSC U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup next year in Argentina. The dates and location of the qualifier are still to be announced.
