Kindermannova shines, leads Czech Republic to first win

U-18 Softball World Cup: The Czech starter struck out 14 Peruvian hitters in six innings of work.

Katerina Kindermannova collected a tournament-high 14 strikeouts in her first start to guide Czech Republic to an 8-0 win over host Peru, in the last game of Day 2 of the WBSC U-18 Softball World Cup. Kindermannova pitched the Czech squad to the victory allowing two hits and two walks in six innings of work.

The Czech Republic scored twice in the third frame, including an RBI single by Magdalena Kavanova, to take the lead. Kindermannova worked with a two-run lead until the top of the seventh, when the European champions exploded for six runs, highlighted by a bases-loaded inside the park home run by Marina Burkovicova.

With a wide-margin lead, Amalie Chaloupkova replaced Kindermannova in the circle, using seven pitches to get a perfect seventh inning.

For Peru, Yanina Sherwood was charged with the loss, pitching 6.2 innings and giving up 9 hits, 8 runs and 2 walks. She struckout six opponents.

Both teams are now 1-1.
