Mexico beats Colombia in five, remains in fight to advance to Bronze Medal Game

Mexico (2-3) remains in the hunt for a spot in the Bronze Medal Game, while Colombia dropped its record to 1-5.

Mexico defeated Colombia, 7-0 in five innings, in the first game of their Friday doubleheader at the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup in Lima, Peru. Yanina Treviño went 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Mariangel Barbosa finished 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Mexico opened the game with three consecutive singles to score a pair of runs. Yanina Treviño and Leanna Garcia delivered an RBI single each when Colombia was still seeking for the first out of the game. 

The Mexican squad added three more in the second on a two-run triple by Treviño and an RBI double off the bat of Romina Ruelas.

The final two runs of the game were scored in the third frame, behind a Barbosa RBI single and a defensive error.

Lilliana Garcia pitched five innings of one-hit ball, with one walk and seven strikeouts. For Colombia, Emily Barrera surrendered 10 hits and 7 runs, and was charged with the loss.
