The US team prevailed in eight innings, in a great pitching duel.

USA continues its perfect run in the WBSC U-18 Women’s Softball World Cup after a 1-0, eight inning win over Puerto Rico. Valerie Cagle and Keagan Rothrock combined to pitch a two-hit shutout for USA, while Esperanza Coe went the distance for Puerto Rico, and was charged with the loss.

Cagle and Rothrock combined for 15 strikeouts in the game, giving up only two hits. Cagle, the US starter, pitched 4.2 innings of two hits, and six strikeouts; while Rothrock tossed 3.1 scoreless frames with no hits allowed and nine strikeouts.

Coe had a great performance in the circle for Puerto Rico. She pitched eight innings with six hits and two Ks.

In the top of the seventh, Tatianna Roman made a game-saving catch in center field. With a runner in second and two outs, Erin Coffee hit a long fly ball to center field, but Roman robbed her of an extra-base hit with the best catch of the tournament so far.

The only run of the game was a sacrifice fly off the bat of Maci Bergeron in the top pf the eighth inning to plate Coffel, who started the inning on second base because of the tie-break rule.
