Germany announces U-23 Baseball World Cup roster

Steve Janssen, the German national team manager, picked 21 players from the German national leagues, one playing in the Netherlands and two in the US. Ten players recently participated in the European Championship.

World No. 18 Germany announced their 24-man roster for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, which opens on Thursday in Hermosillo and Ciudad Obregon, Mexico. Steve Janssen, the German national team manager, picked 21 players from the German national leagues, one playing in the Netherlands and two in the US.

See Germany’s full roster via the Germand Baseball and Softball Federation (Deutscher Baseball und Softball Verband e.V. - DBV) website.

“It's a great opportunity for the U-23 to play at this level. For most players it will be the first time at a World Cup. The level is significantly higher than at the European Championship,” said Janssen at the German federation website. “It will also be interesting for us to see the level of our players and how they deal with the challenge."

The German U-23 National Baseball Team traveled on Monday evening to Ciudad Obregon, to play in the U-23 Baseball World Cup’s Group A against No. 3 Chinese Taipei, No. 5 Mexico, No. 6 Dominican Republic, No. 11 Cuba and No. 16 Czech Republic.

Germany will open on Thursday, 10:30 a.m. local time, against Chinese Taipei.

Germany qualified for the world championship with a second place at the U-23 European Championship 2019. At the latest U-23 European Championship this past August, Germany came in second place again and is therefore already qualified for the next world championship.
