Pan American champions Nicaragua announce roster for WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup

The roster includes five minor leaguers like Leo Crawford, Dilmer Mejía, Elian Miranda, Milkar Pérez and Oscar Rayo.

Nicaragua’s U-23 National Baseball Team manager Sandor Guido unveiled his roster for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup, to be played in Hermosillo and Ciudad Obregon, Mexico, and is slated to open on Thursday.

The roster includes five minor leaguers like Leo Crawford, Dilmer Mejía, Elian Miranda, Milkar Pérez and Oscar Rayo; and players from the German Pomares championship signed by professional teams in the Nicaragua Baseball League.

No. 14 Nicaragua are the reigning Pan American champions, after going undefeated to win the title in 2020. This win helped them to be declared “Team of the Year” by International Sports Press Association (AIPS) America

Nicaragua shares Group B with No. 2 Korea, No. 8 Netherlands, No. 10 Venezuela, No. 13 Panama and No. 15 Colombia. They will open the tournament on Thursday facing Korea at 15:00 a.m. local time, at Estadio Sonora in Hermosillo.

It will be Nicaragua’s second participation in the U-23 Baseball World Cup. They finished in sixth place in the inaugural U-23 Baseball World Cup in 2016 in Monterrey, Mexico, with an even record of 4-4.
