Six teams have punched their tickets into the Super Round of the Americas Qualifier for the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup 2020: world No. 10 Dominican Republic, No. 9 Venezuela, and No. 15 Nicaragua out of Group A; and No. 8 Cuba, No. 13 Panama, No. 14 Colombia out of Group B.

Opening Round results

Hosts Nicaragua finished undefeated in group A, but they had to go through challenging games to defeat the Dominican Republic and Brazil.

Nicaragua defeated the Dominican Republic, 2-0, thanks to a two-run double by Toronto Blue Jays minor leaguer Jesus Lopez. Pitchers Dilmer Kejia and Luis Castellon combined on the shutout. On Day 3, Nicaragua blasted two home runs -- one by San Francisco Giants prospect Ismael Munguia and former Dodger prospect Mike Loaisiga -- in their 7-6 win over Brazil.

The Dominican Republic and Brazil entered the last day of group play tied. The Dominicans won via tie-breaker, 5-4. The Dominican Republic opened the score with four runs in a fourth at-bat highlighted by a two-run home run by outfielder Van Javier. Edwin Adon earned the win. All three of Brazil's losses were by one run.

Venezuela finished second in group A losing only the game against Nicaragua.

Cuba went undefeated in group B, but needed an extra-inning win, 3-2, against Panama to get started. Daniel Perez batted in all the runs that Cuba needed and reliever Andy Rodriguez earned the win.

Colombia finished second and Panama third. In the head to head, Colombia shut out Panama, 8-0.
