Mexico play solid behind Alemao Hernandez as they shut out Netherlands

The 'tricolores' punched in their second win. Gave their starting pitcher the support he needed with two runs in the bottom of the second and added two insurance runs on defensive errors in the fifth.

Mexico played clinical pitching and hitting as they staged a 4-0 win over the Netherlands on Sunday to remain undefeated in Group B of the IV WBSC Baseball World Cup.

Alemao Hernandez gave Mexico five solid innings, striking out six and allowing only three hits, and Jose Reyes pitching a perfect six, and Alan Mundo taking care of the last three outs.

Mexico took the lead in the second on Oliver Carrillo's single. With one out, Christopher Escarrega turned the fourth pitch by Dutch starter Scott Prins into an RBI double to the right, followed by Angel Camacho's double to the left that put them ahead 2-0.

Mexico extended the lead in the bottom of the fifth. The Dutch defence did not support reliever Kevin Bakker, as Mexico scored on a couple of throwing errors. The Netherlands got out of the inning on a double play started by shortstop Shervynen Newton.

Mexico will face Puerto Rico on Monday at 12.30 local time, while the Netherlands will meet Cuba at 15.30.
