After three scoreless innings, Argentina scored three runs each in the fourth and sixth innings to punch another win in their XVII Men's Softball World Cup campaign.

Alan Peker’s three-run homer to deep centre field underlined the dominance of Argentina, in their 6-0 victory over the Philippines on Sunday in the XVII WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup.

The reigning world champions claimed their second win of the tournament, albeit neither of them fully convincing after a seventh-inning come-from-behind win over Cuba on Day One, while the Philippines dropped to 0-2.

Although Argentina have the power to go on massive scoring runs, the Philippines managed to keep up with their rivals early in the game. The Philippines, playing impressive defence, kept the score in the first three and a half innings to 0-0, until Argentina began to find their rhythm on offence.

Santiago Carril singled to third base on a bunt but was out at second, while Gonzalo Ojeda reached on fielder’s choice. Lucio Retamar walked, advancing Ojeda to second base, and putting both players in a scoring position.

After Gian Scialocomo was struck out, Alan Peker stepped in the batter’s box against the Philippines’ Julius Dela Cruz. His first attempt was a home run to deep centre field that gave way to Ojeda, Retamar and himself to give their team a 3-0 advantage in the fourth inning.

The Philippines managed to hold off their opponents for a scoreless fifth inning, but Argentina’s strategy of pinch hitting, and pinch running worked wonders as Federico Eder, Ladislao Malarczuk and Huemul Mata scored another three runs in the sixth inning.

With victory in sight, Argentina’s defensive changes and substitutions in the seventh inning closed the Philippines down and repeated the win of 2019 when Argentina won 15-0.
