Cuba reveal preliminary roster for WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup in New Zealand

A total of 24 players were named to the preliminary team for the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup, to be played in Auckland, New Zealand, from 26 November to 4 December.

World No. 12 Cuba named a preliminary roster of 24 athletes for the upcoming WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup, that will be played in Auckland, New Zealand, from 26 November to 4 December. The group counts with three catchers, six infielders, eight outfielders and seven pitchers.

Head Coach Leonardo Cardenas is happy with the preliminary roster and is confident to put together a good team for the World Cup. “We’ve included the players from the Pan American Championship and eight more athletes that displayed a good performance during the National Championship.”

Cuba’s preliminary roster is:

  • Pitchers: Alain Roman, Gusbal Plutin, Rafael Guerra, Eduardo González, Yosvani Cárdenas, Javier Navarro and Ordanis Díaz.
  • Catchers: Reinier Vera, Antonio Sixto and Andres Reina.
  • Infielders: Luis Domínguez, Yersander Rodríguez, Osvaldo Pérez, Wilfredo Sánchez, César Boza y Magdiel Gómez.
  • Outfielders: Miguel Savigne, Reinaldo Lamothe, Roger Rosete, Yuri Rodríguez, Yasmani Álvarez, Yurisander Ramos, Héctor Castillo and Anibal Vaillant.

Cuba qualified for the World Cup after earning a bronze medal at the Pan American Championship in Parana, Argentina.

It will be Cuba’s third participation in the biggest men’s softball tournament in the world, after finishing in 10th place in 2019 in Prague, Czech Republic. Their first appearance in the Men’s Softball World Cup was in 1988, when they finished in fourth place.
