“To be named the MVP is unbelievable, it’s pretty special. Just winning the world championship is greater than any other individual, I’m speechless,” said Kronk after the closing ceremony. “This title is very special. It’s been 13 years since the last tournament, and coach Bob Harrow passed this year, so it’s very special to win for him.”

Aftert a fantastic performance throughout the tournament, Australia’s Marshall Kronk was named the WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup MVP. The WBSC also named the All-World Team and introduced the individual awards during the Closing Ceremony.

Kronk helped Australia to win the tournament both offensively and on the pitching side. He hit .240 with seven RBI and two runs scored, including a home run. In the circle, he earned a win and a save in 14.2 innings, with 20 strikeouts and a 2.86.

The WBSC also revealed the XVII WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup All-World Team, with five nations represented.

New world champions Australia is represented by two players. Brendon O’Byrne is the All-World second baseman, after hitting .412 with seven runs scored; while Nick Shailes, who won his second world title today, was named the best third baseman of the tournament. Shailes hit .375 in the tournament, with two home runs and eight RBI.

The best pitcher was Sean Cleary (CAN), earned three wins during the tournament. Cleary posted a 1.52 ERA in 23 innings pitched, with 44 strikeouts. Canada’s Quinten Bruce and Bryan Abrey also were named into the All-World Team, as outfield and designated player respectivelly. Bruce was the leading hitter of the tournament with .647, including a homer, two triples and five RBI. 

USA’s Jonathan Lynch and Blaine Milheim complete the outfield of the All-World Team. Lynch hit .500 with two home runs and seven runs scored; while Milheim hit .448 with three home runs, seven RBI and eight runs.

Argentina has two players in the XVII WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup All-World Team: Catcher Juan Zara and shortstop Ladislao Malarczuk. Zara hit .381 with four RBI, two doubles and three runs scored. Malarczuk hit for .500 with six runs scored.

Erwin Diaz from Venezuela was the best first baseman of the tournament, hitting .364 with five RBI and two runs scored.

During the closing ceremony, the individual awards were delivered:

  • Leading hitter: Quinten Bruce (CAN) - .647
  • Pitcher with best ERA: Roman Godoy (ARG) - 1.17
  • Pitcher with best win-loss record: Huemul Mata (ARG) - 4-0
  • Most Home Runs: Bryan Abrey (CAN) - 3 in 21 at bats
  • Most RBI: Bryan Abrey (CAN) - 11 
  • Most stolen bases: Yusef Davis (USA) - 3
  • Most runs scored: Shane Boland (CAN) - 9
  • Defensive Player: Luis Dominguez (CUB) - SS
