Late comeback gives Canada win over Australia, ticket for Finals 2024

The host team entered the sixth inning with a three-run deficit, but a pair of rallies in the last two innings of the game enabled them the win.

Canada recovered from a three-run deficit in the sixth inning to claim an important win against Australia, 11-7, in a tightly contested game in Group A of the Women's Baseball World Cup. Alexane Fournier collected five RBIs in the game, including a game-tying infield hit. With this win, Canada secured at least a third-place finish in the final standings, also boosting their and Mexico's claims for the remaining two spots in the World Championship Finals.

After two scoreless innings, Genevieve Beacom got herself into trouble and allowed four runs in the top of the third. She left the game after 2.2 innings of work, allowing four runs with two hits, six walks and four strikeouts. Australia answered with two in the bottom half of the inning.

In the bottom of the fifth, Australia mounted a five-run inning to take the lead in the game. However, a leadoff triple by Sena Catteral in the top of the fifth ignited the Canadian offence, scoring seven runs in the last two innings of play.

Raine Padgham was the winning pitcher, working three innings in relief. Allowing three runs with six hits, three walks and three strikeouts. The starter Allison Schroder pitched 4+ innings giving up four runs (two earned), three hits and four walks.

Australia sent six pitchers to the mound, four of them to retire the last six outs. The losing pitcher was Morgan Doty, who surrendered four runs on four hits and three walks.
