Americas champion Venezuela, 2nd Place Puerto Rico, 3rd Place Mexico and 4th Place Cuba all qualify for the next WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup.

Host Venezuela topped Puerto Rico in Saturday’s final of the WBSC Americas Women's Baseball World Cup Qualifier, 2-1, to earn the continental title in the category. The final of the six-team tournament was played at a fully packed Jorge Luis Garcia Carneiro Stadium in Macuto, Venezuela.

Venezuela ended the undefeated streak of Puerto Rico in a pitching duel that had Orianny Hernández in the key role. The righty tossed five scoreless innings, with three hits, one walk and five strikeouts to secure the win and was later named the MVP of the championship.

“We kept improving in all aspects of the game as the tournament developed, defence was the key, but the offensive and pitching were enough to win the trophy,” said Venezuela’s manager Carlos Torres.

Mexico recovered from a 4-0 deficit against Cuba in the last two innings to win 9-5 and clinch the bronze medal.

Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Cuba qualified for the IX WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup as the top four nations in the continental event. The IX WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup is scheduled for the summer of 2024. It will be the first edition to be played under the new WBSC two-stage World Cup format.
