The 39-year-old former catcher will lead the US to an international friendship series against Canada from 28 July to 1 August.

USA Baseball announced that Veronica Alvarez would manage the US Women's National Baseball Team in an international friendship series against Canada from 28 July to 1 August in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Alvarez, 39, is a former catcher who helped the United States earn two bronze (2008, 2010) and a silver medal (2012) in WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup. She played on the team that won gold at the Pan American Games 2015.

As a coach, Alvarez was on the staff at the WBSC Women's Baseball World Cup 2018. She became the manager in 2019 and led the United States to a gold medal at the Pan American Games.

"Being in the position to lead these athletes is an honour and a dream," Alvarez said. "We are on a mission to be the best in the world, and every opportunity we get to develop and compete together is a step closer to completing that mission."

The remaining members of the 2019 staff are also set to return in 2022, with Manny Crespo, Sr., and Alex Oglesby as assistant coaches and Reynol Mendoza serving as the team’s pitching coach.
