Luis Rodriguez's bat ignites Mexico’s comeback win against Singapore

Luis Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a triple, an inside-the-park home run and four RBIs.

Mexico completed their second successful comeback of the U-23 Men’s Softball World Cup, scoring eight unanswered runs in their 8-5 win against Singapore at El Plumazo. Luis Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a triple, an inside the park home run and four RBIs.

On Day 1, Mexico trailed 4-0 against Argentina, and the team fought back to claim a key 5-4 win. On Monday, they were 5-0 down in the bottom of the fourth, before a spectacular eight-run effort in the second part of the game to keep their undefeated record.

Singapore took an early lead in the top of the first with an Auric Chia RBI single to plate Ean Eu.

Joshua Tan went deep over the left fielder fence for a three-run homer to give Singapore a 4-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Jeron Tan added one more with an RBI single to bring Max Koh home.

In the bottom of the fourth, Mexico reduced the deficit to 5-2 with a two-out double by David Diaz, allowing Iran Torres and Alejandro Villalobos to cross home plate.

Mexico tied the game in the fifth inning. Abelardo Penuelas scored the first run to make it 5-3 with a sacrifice fly by Junior Flores. Then Rodriguez hit a line drive to right field, where Max Koh missed on a diving catch, allowing Rodriguez to round the bases and tie the game with a two-run inside-the-park home run.

Junior Flores' RBI single and Rodriguez's two-RBI triple gave Mexico a three-run lead in the sixth.

Jose Valdez grabbed his third win of the tournament with an outstanding relief appearance. He struck out five in 4.1 innings, while allowing just two hits and no runs. He has pitched a total of 12 innings in the tournament and allowed just one run.

Mexico stayed on top of the standings in Group A with a perfect 3-0 record, while Singapore dropped their record to 0-3.
