Willy Rodriguez leads Venezuela to first win with two-way magic, no-hitter and three-hit game
Willy Rodriguez did it all for World No. 6 Venezuela. He threw a complete game no-hitter, striking out six, and went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run scored. Venezuela defeated No. 4 Mexico, 10-0.
Venezuela took the lead in the top of the third. Second baseman Alexandro Ladera hit an RBI double, and pitcher Willy Rodriguez helped himself, turning the second pitch by Mexico's starter Geronimo Perez into a two-RBI single to right field.
They added a run in the top of the fourth. Catcher Abel Granadillo scored on a double by right fielder Xavier Cafre and a passed ball.
Rodriguez left no chance to Mexico's bats and Venezuela extended the lead with a five-run sixth at bat.
Venezuela will open Day 3 against Australia, while Mexico will face Chinese Taipei in the afternoon game.
