XVII WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Group A - Most Outstanding Player: Hannah Flippen thanks teammates for "great accomplishment"

The 28-year-old Olympic silver medallist posted a .462 batting average, a tournament high six RBI and played perfect defence at third base and shortstop. The US pitchers didn't allow a run. Great Britain's Georgina Corrick had the most innings pitched (26), strikeouts (40) and wins (3)

Hannah Flippen of the United States said being named the XVII Women's Softball World Cup Group A Most Outstanding Player (MOP) "is a great accomplishment" and said it couldn't have happened without the support of the rest of her team and coaching staff.

"Playing with USA softball is always competitive and challenging. It feels great to be recognized for my performance last week," Flippen told the WBSC. "I couldn't have been the MOP without teammates being on base and having quality at-bats, and coaches that continue to share their knowledge to make our team better."

Flippen started all games at third base. She went 6-for-13, a .462 batting average, with one double and a tournament high six RBIs. She didn't commit an error while completing eight assists.

Flippen will now compete in the Athletes Unlimited League and in the Japanese pro championship.

"I love this league because I get to compete in the US and play with my friends. After that, I'll return to Japan for the second half of the Diamond League. My team Hitachi Sundiva is full of awesome humans and athletes, and we will be fighting to win a championship this fall!"

The US won Group A undefeated with their bats dominating. Nicole Bates was the leading hitter with a .500 batting average, ahead of Australia's Jade Wall (.467; she had the most hits, seven), and teammates Flippen, Alison Aguilar (.444; leading with two home runs) and Sahvanna Jaquish (.429).

The team batting average was an outstanding .326, while second place Australia posted a .286 average and third place Great Britain finished at .204.
